North Atlantic Ballet (NAB) is a vibrant New England based ballet company creating original works of art, invigorating our audiences with a new experience in the ballet world. Our collaborations with dancers, choreographers, musicians, visual artists, and the community keeps the art form fresh.

Formerly known as North Atlantic Dance Theatre, NAB has transformed into a 501c3 not-for-profit company & school. We aim to bring ballet into the 21st century, keeping it relevant and enjoyable for people of all walks of life as ART for ALL.

NAB’s creative performances inspire audiences to delve into another world, even if for only a short time. Their performances are often compared to a PIXAR film : “ a little something for adults & kids”.

The Company

Founded in 1980, North Atlantic Ballet (NAB) was developed by Cletus (Skip) Warren & Rachel Whitman in Gloucester, MA.  Supported by the Mass Cultural Council , Globe Foundation, The Stevens Foundation and the Rockefeller Family Trust, it toured New England bringing Arts & Culture to the community for over 15 years. The company came to an end in 1995 due to a family illness, until one of their daughters, Lucy Warren-Whitman revived NAB in 2013.

Since its re-inception, NAB has captivated and inspired its community with its heart and humor. Founder and Artistic Director, Lucy Warren-Whitman’s guiding mission is to bring ballet into the 21st century, keeping it relevant and enjoyable for every facet of NAB’s audiences.

As the ballet company in residence at The Cabot Theater, located in Beverly, MA., NAB traditionally performs four to five programs each season in the greater Boston area, including the annual favorite The Nutcracker. When we cannot connect with our community in person, NAB is committed to bringing the experience of dance to our audiences in the safety of their homes through digital performances.

Since its founding, Ms. Warren-Whitman has created original versions of many classic stories for NAB including Scheherazade, Cinderella, A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream, and The Little Mermaid. NAB has commissioned new works, including Lorraine Chapman’s Firebird and Margaret Wiss’ Glossarium with a commissioned score composed by Beau Kenyon. 

NAB’s beloved reinterpretations of classic story ballets are bookended by its reverence for timeless ballets, like those by August Bournonville, and a flair for theatrics, as seen in Ms. Warren-Whitman’s In the Mood. NAB fosters opportunities for budding choreographers, most notably through our 1:2 Choreography Lab featuring two choreographers’ interpretations of one commissioned music score.
